Description
We will be running an eSports team open only to girls as this is a massively under-represented group in school eSports, especially at our school where in our first year there were no girls on the team. The hope is that the team will compete in the British eSports Federation Student Champs, in Rocket League but also the bespoke Women in eSports Cup competitions.
Obviously, success in the event would be really good. But the main focus for this is developing the girls' leadership and teamwork skills as well as promotion, commercial and creative opportunities. In addition to the playing team members, we will invite students to broadcast and commentate on the matches, create content for social media, contact potential sponsors, provide tech support, and coach. We aim to run it as close to a professional organisation as possible.
I am hopeful that providing this opportunity will attract those who would not have thought to or wanted to take part in such an activity until it was advertised as girls-only. I want students to grow in their confidence and also learn skills from these opportunities that they would not usually get. While I have only put a few dates down, I envisage this event going on for most of the year on a Wednesday.
