Buxton School

Description Buxton is a diverse and community inspired all-through school serving many children from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds.

In academic year 2025-2026 the secondary Computing and IT have a goal to increase the number of female students to opt for GCSE Computer Science.

A series of activities are in the process of being planned for the Autumn term to help promote the subject and increase skills and interest.

What content does the event teach?
Hands on practical skills and application.
Which methods and resources are used to convey this content to the participants?
Workshops and educational visits.
What are the goals of the event?
To help girls recognise their potential and ability and encourage uptake of the subject at GCSE level.
Which target group are you addressing with your event?
KS3 girls - Year 9
What makes your event special for the target group?
Practical approach, use of external links and visits
Is there any other relevant information for the target group, e.g. about registration?
Some students are registered as Pupil Premium and receive free school meals.
