Description
Accelerating Girls in Tech: Our After-School Esports Club
We are excited to propose our After-School Esports Club, designed to train a small, dedicated team of girls for participation in competitive sim racing. This initiative aligns well with your grant criteria, focusing on technology and coding, being delivered over a six-month period between Sept and March 2026, targeting girls aged 8-18. Participation is free of charge for all students.
The club will run in weekly 45-minute sessions after school (with an option for some lunchtime training as well). The same committed group of students will attend all sessions, ensuring deep skill development and team cohesion. Each cohort (team) will cater to a minimum of 20 children who will rotate the driving between them.
Content and Goals
This Esports Club offers a unique blend of competitive gaming, technical skill development, and immersive learning. These skills include: sim racing training, hands-on setup design & building the units, technological literacy, and teamwork / strategy.
Our primary goal is to empower girls and enable them to break into a male-dominated esports scene, fostering confidence, competitive spirit, and a sense of belonging in a rapidly growing industry. We aim to provide a fun, educational, and truly immersive experience that motivates them in technology and competitive gaming.
Why Our Club is Special
What makes our Esports Club particularly impactful is its direct challenge to gender stereotypes in gaming. By training and supporting a team of girls, we are actively working to increase female visibility and participation. This will hopefully provide a pathway to other technology / competitive fields. Students will also be involved in designing and building the setup.
Our school has a proven track record of running successful after-school technology clubs, including our Robotics and VR clubs, which have engaged many eager students, including a significant number from diverse ethnic minority backgrounds.
This grant funding will be used to purchase the core sim racing cockpit setup, steering wheel, and pedals, as well as essential spares and repairs to maintain the equipment, ensuring the club's longevity and accessibility for all participants.
This grant will enable us to provide an unparalleled opportunity for these girls to excel in a cutting-edge field, gain valuable technical skills, and redefine what it means to be a gamer and technologist.
